One for Sorrow - acrylic and oil on canvas

One for Sorrow

In the world of art, every piece tells a story, and this portrayal of a magpie is no exception. Titled "One for Sorrow," this artwork marks the beginning of my new Magpie series. This first piece was created to express my feelings about the current situation in Gaza. The magpie, with its glossy black feathers and the Palestinian scarf draped from its beak, invites us to pause and reflect on our shared humanity, to bare witness and speak out for those whose voices are being silenced.

Magpies are often seen as symbols of curiosity and intelligence, and this piece strives to capture that essence. The bird stands confidently, its gaze piercing through the canvas, as if inviting us to join in its exploration of the world. The scarf, with its soft hues and intricate patterns, adds a layer of warmth and humanity to the scene. It’s a poignant reminder of how our lives are connected to the natural world, and how even the simplest objects can carry deep meaning.

As an artist, I find inspiration in the everyday moments that often go unnoticed. The Magpie gathers keepsakes. In this painting i wanted the scarf to be seen, not as something out of place, but transported, to symbolize the support for Palestine that has crossed borders.

This artwork is also part of a fundraiser for Gaza, channeling our empathy and support for those in need. Art has the power to connect us, spark conversations, and inspire change. I hope this piece resonates with you.

I am donating all the profits from the sale of every A4 limited edition print and every A3 limited edition print to Gazan families.

The original painting can be viewed in Killarney House and Garden, during August , as part of the Tralee Art Group exhibition….go to www.traleeartgroup.com to view works and purchase paintings or prints.

Two for Joy

Two for Joy - Acrylic and Oil on canvas

Nature has a way of inspiring us, doesn’t it?

In this vibrant piece, entitled “ Two for Joy” two magpies perch gracefully on a branch, embodying the beauty and energy of the natural world. The colors dance across the canvas, creating a lively backdrop that invites you to step closer and explore the details.

Birds often symbolize freedom and perspective, reminding us to look at life from different angles. The ribbons held in the beak and draped over the branch represent the rainbow flag and trans flag colours.

Each brushstroke tells a story, 10 years ago Ireland voted for marriage equality, this piece symbolises the Joy that came from that moment and the lives that have been changed. With this piece I wanted to capture the colour and vibrancy of the campaign.

I hope this piece resonates with you as much as it does with me. Let it inspire you to find beauty in your surroundings and to embrace the vibrant colors of your own journey

This artwork is also part of a fundraiser for LINQ Ireland, to support them in continuing their work with Lesbian and Bisexual Women in Cork.
